Getting Started
Click 'Sign Up' at the top of the page, enter your email and password, and complete your profile. You'll receive a confirmation email to verify your account before you can start renting or listing.
Identity verification is required to list items for rent. You'll upload a government-issued ID, which our team reviews within 1-2 business days. Renters are encouraged to verify their phone number and complete their profile.
Creating an account and browsing listings is free. A 8% service fee is charged on rental transactions to cover payment processing costs and platform maintenance.
RentKin offers 10 categories: Vehicles, Tools, Electronics, Spaces, Sports equipment, Furniture, Fashion, Party supplies, Baby items, and Music instruments.
Renting Items
Find an item, select your dates, and click 'Request Booking'. The owner reviews your request and either approves or declines it. Once approved, you'll need to complete payment within 48 hours.
You have 48 hours from the time a booking is approved to complete payment. If payment isn't received by the deadline, the booking is automatically cancelled. You'll receive a reminder before the deadline.
After payment, coordinate with the owner via messaging to arrange pickup. The owner confirms pickup when you collect the item. At the end of the rental, return the item and the owner confirms the return. Both confirmations are recorded in your booking.
Contact the owner immediately and document the issue with photos. If you can't resolve it directly, our support team can mediate. Refunds may be issued depending on the circumstances.
You can request an extension through the booking page. The owner must approve the extension, and you'll be charged for the additional days.
If your payment fails, the booking moves to a 'Payment Failed' status. You can retry the payment from the booking page. If not resolved, the booking may be cancelled.
Listing Items
Click 'List an Item', select a category, and fill in the title, description, photos, daily price, and pickup location. Identity verification is required before your listing goes live.
Research similar items on the platform. Consider your item's value, condition, and local demand. You can adjust pricing at any time based on booking interest.
Include clear, well-lit photos from multiple angles. Show features, accessories, and any wear. Good photos build trust and lead to more bookings.
Yes. You control which dates are available, can set minimum rental periods, and pause your listing at any time.
When a renter arrives, you confirm the pickup in the booking page. When they return the item, you confirm the return. After confirming the return, you have 48 hours to inspect the item and file a damage claim if needed.
Yes. When creating your listing, you can set a deposit amount. The deposit protects you against damage. If there's an issue, you can file a claim and the deposit can be captured to cover costs.
Payments & Fees
When your booking is approved, you pay through our Stripe-powered payment system. The rental amount, service fee, and deposit (if required) are processed together. Funds are held until the rental completes successfully.
RentKin charges a 8% service fee on each transaction to cover payment processing costs and platform maintenance. This fee is calculated on the rental amount and shown on the booking page before you pay.
For rentals of 6 days or shorter, the deposit is placed as an authorization hold (no charge unless needed). For longer rentals, the deposit is charged upfront as a separate payment. In both cases, if no damage claim is filed, the deposit is released after the claim window closes.
Payouts are scheduled 3 days after the rental ends. However, if there is an open damage claim or dispute, the payout is held until the claim is resolved. Once processed, funds arrive in your connected bank account via Stripe.
Open damage claims and disputes block payout processing. Your payout is scheduled once all claims are resolved. If no claim is filed within the 48-hour claim window, the payout proceeds automatically.
All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor. RentKin never stores your full card details. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Cancellations & Refunds
Refunds depend on when you cancel relative to the rental start date. Cancelling 48+ hours before start gives a full refund. Cancelling 24-48 hours before gives a partial refund. Cancelling less than 24 hours before start provides no refund.
No. The service fee covers payment processing costs charged by our payment provider, which are not returned to us. Because of this, the service fee is non-refundable even if the rental amount is refunded.
If a deposit authorization hold was placed, it is released automatically when the booking is cancelled. If the deposit was charged (for longer rentals), it is refunded as part of the cancellation.
Yes. Bookings are auto-cancelled in these cases: if the renter doesn't pay within 48 hours of approval, if a required deposit isn't completed within 24 hours, or if a pending booking request goes unanswered for too long.
Disputes & Claims
As an owner, you have 48 hours after confirming the return to file a damage claim. Upload photos and describe the damage. The claim amount cannot exceed the deposit amount. The renter will be notified and asked to respond.
Yes. When a damage claim is filed against you, you can accept it or dispute it. If you dispute, provide your explanation and any evidence. The claim is escalated to our admin team for review. Uncontested claims are automatically accepted after 72 hours.
Our admin team reviews the evidence from both parties. They can approve the full claim amount, approve a partial amount, or reject the claim entirely. The decision determines how much of the deposit is captured or released.
Trust & Safety
All users who list items must complete identity verification with a government-issued ID. Renters are encouraged to verify their phone number and complete their profile.
Try to resolve the issue with the other party via messaging. Document everything with photos. If you can't reach a resolution, contact our support team for mediation.
Contact our support team immediately with documentation. Both parties are investigated. Security deposits help cover damages, and our team will assist with resolution.
After a rental completes, both the renter and owner can leave reviews. Reviews become visible once both parties have submitted theirs, ensuring honest and fair feedback.
